Hell

Gehenna ((Matthew 5:22), Second Death, Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:14)
Not the same as: Hades, Sheol, Tartarus, Outer darkness.

The Lake of Fire is the destiny of all those who do not trust Jesus as Lord and Savior (Revelation 20:15). It is a terrible place of pain (Revelation 20:10) as punishment for sin (Revelation 21:8). The punishment lasts forever (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10). The Lake of Fire was originally created for the devil and his demons (Matthew 25:41; 2 Peter 2:4).

”Hell fire” or “Gehenna” Gehenna is a valley near Jerusalem. It was ceremonially unclean because Israel sacrificed their children to idols there in the time before Christ. The Jews hated their past sin there. So they continued to make the valley unclean. They threw their dung, dead animals, and bodies of criminals into the valley. Worms ate the dead bodies. Fires burned there all the time to keep down the smell and disease. Since it was a place of uncleanness and constant fire, Gehenna is used as a symbol for Hell. Hell is where those who do not trust Jesus will spend eternity (Revelation 20:15).
